Four things move a slab leak quote: whether the leak was located before anyone cut, which repair route is chosen, what the floor is made of, and who makes it good afterwards. Locating it first is what turns a quote into a set of choices rather than one figure.

The things that move it
- Locating versus repairing. Two jobs. Some contractors quote them separately and some fold them together; either is fine as long as you know which you are looking at.
- Which repair option. A reroute and a spot repair are different work with different disruption.
- What is being restored. Concrete only, or concrete and the floor covering over it. This is the commonest late disagreement.
- Access. A kitchen island over the leak is a different proposition from an open floor.
- Whether the slab can be cut at all, and what establishing that involves.
Two questions worth asking every time
What did the isolation test show — hot or cold? It takes minutes with the water heater valve, and it should already have been done.
What happens if the location is wrong? Settle it before the first cut, not after.
